New Naruto Ninja Storm game

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution is the latest addition to CyberConnect2's action series, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm. In this game, fans of the anime franchise can once again experience the deep and rich Shinobi environment, but with tons of new techniques and enhanced mechanics.

Revolution's biggest alteration came in the form of its available content. The game sports over 100 characters, covering almost the entire property. It also has a different take on the traditional story campaign and even comes with a tournament mode. However, unlike the previous title, the story in this anime fighting game is comparatively thin.

What can you expect in the game?

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution is a game that aims to keep players occupied. The main portion of it is its new Ninja World Tournament mode. Here, players will fight to determine the best fighter. Most of the battles are mano-a-mano, with the typical health bar that shows the players' status. In between battles, there will also be occasional four-player matches and side-quests that you can complete.

In place of the traditional story campaign is the Ninja Escapades. However, instead of lavish cut-scenes and stunning battles, you'll find a collection of stories exclusive to the titles. The entire story is short and thin, which will have fans walking away in disappointment. Adding to the injury is the online mode. Here, lobbies for 4-8 people exist. However, only two people can fight, and the rest will have to wait their turn.

Revolution also made significant changes to the fighting itself. The new system includes breaking and counter mechanics, which requires proper timing to pull off successfully. Without using this, players will likely fail and become exposed to more damage. Unfortunately, if you are not familiar with the series' gameplay, you will have to experiment through trial and error or look for tactics online. There is no tutorial available in the game.

Does not live up to the hype

At a glance, NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM Revolution looks like a great addition to the growing list of Naruto games. Graphically, the characters look like their anime counterparts. All of their special moves are also faithful to the show. However, despite the brilliant and intense spectacle of all-out ninja warfare, a few missteps drag it down. These annoying imbalances kept the game from reaching true Hokage status.

PROS

  • Over 100 character roster
  • New tournament mode
  • New and strategic fighting moves
  • Faithful to the anime counterpart

CONS

  • Lacks tutorial
  • Story is thin and short
  • Basic online mode
  • Unbalanced combat elements
